Professor Deirdre Hollingsworth is an infectious disease epidemiologist who uses mathematical models and statistical analyses to study the evolution and transmission dynamics of infectious diseases with the aim of informing the design of more effective control interventions. She joined the Oxford Big Data Institute in 2017, where she leads the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded neglected tropical diseases modelling consortium.

Infectious disease modelling of the dynamics of transmission, simulation of interventions and interpretation of data.
What are you working on right now?
I am working on modelling the long-term dynamics of the COVID19 pandemic and different intervention strategies. I am also chair of the organising committee for the Isaac Newton Institute virtual programme on infectious dynamics of pandemics (https://www.newton.ac.uk/event/idp) which is bringing together COVID19 modellers from around the world to address the outstanding questions around how to control this pandemic.
