Professor Katie Ewer is senior immunologist for Oxford's ChAdOx1 nCov-2019 coronavirus, Ebola and pre-erythrocytic malaria vaccine trials. She oversees the immunology on Phase I and II trials of VLP and vectored vaccines, both in the UK, and in field trials in Africa.
What is your main area(s) of interest/expertise?
I'm interested in how vaccines, and the immune responses they produce, protect us against infections. This helps us to understand what would make a good vaccine for a disease like malaria to why vaccines sometimes work less well than we expect.
What are you working on right now?
I'm working to analyse the immune system responses to Oxford's ChAdOx1 nCov-2019 coronavirus vaccine and preparing for a Phase 3 trial of a new malaria vaccine.

There is a great critical mass of expertise in immunology and vaccinology at Oxford, and long-standing collaborations with research teams and commercial partners around the world. This allows the discoveries that we make in the lab to be translated into practice more quickly.
