Dr Springmann is Senior Researcher at the Nuffield Department of Population Health and leads its programme on environmental sustainability and public health. He is also part of the Oxford Martin School's Programme on 'The Future Food', investigating how to overhaul the global food system to meet the challenges of feeding a growing world population in a healthy, equitable, sustainable and resilient way.
In his previous research, Dr Springmann has focused on national and global climate policies and their impact and how the responsibility for consumption-driven greenhouse gas emissions can be integrated into this policy-making. Other research has explored climate change adaptation, the relationship of sustainability and long-term discounting as well as the effects that aerosols have on local air pollution.
In his work he combines his interests in the health, environmental and economic dimensions of the global food systems whilst his use of systems models provides quantitative estimates on food-related questions.
