Mark Graham is an economic geographer who works at the Oxford Internet Institute. He is also the Director of the Fairwork Foundation.
What is your main area(s) of interest/expertise?:
The platform economy, the gig economy, digital labour, AI and work.
What are you working on right now?:
I spend most of my time leading the work being done with colleagues in the Fairwork Foundation. It is an action research project that evaluates digital labour platforms against ten measures of fairness at work. More recently, the Fairwork team has been surveying the policies enacted by 120 platform companies in over 20 countries to understand the types of policies being put in place to support gig workers. From that work, we aim to highlight best (and worst) practice.
Why is Oxford a good place to work in this field of research?
The thing I'm most grateful for about this job is the wonderful team I get to collaborate with. It's really inspiring to have half a dozen committed, creative, and smart people are focusing their minds on the same objective.
