I am Professor of Mathematical Biology based in the Department of Zoology and one of the Associate Heads of the MPLS Division. I am Tutor in Biology at St Peters College. I completed my undergraduate degree and postgraduate training at Imperial College and held a Royal Society University Research Fellowship. I have been in Oxford for about 15 years now.
What is your main area(s) of interest/expertise?:
I have expertise in maths and biology and its application to ecology, evolution and epidemiology. I lead a large research group interested in the application of maths across the life sciences (we have projects on, for example, developmental biology, the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, ecology of rare plants and modelling mental health disorders).
What are you working on right now?:
We have two COVID related projects underway at the moment. The first is an epidemiological study aimed at evaluating the efficacy of early diagnostic testing (and prevalence of COVID-19 in the community - details here: covidstudy.zoo.ox.ac.uk). The second is a mathematical modelling project to investigate exit strategies from lockdown.
