Rebecca Moore (nee Russell) started her career at Imperial College London as a Wellcome Trust Ph.D. student then post-doctoral fellow with Professor Myra McClure. After a stint as a Visiting Research Fellow at the National Institute of Health, USA Rebecca joined the Sattentau lab in 2008 to continue her research into HIV-1.
What is your main area(s) of interest/expertise?
I have two decades of experience in retroviral research investigating their therapeutic potential as gene therapy vectors, their manipulation of the intrinsic immune response (restriction factors), and the mechanism of cell-cell spread between different types of immune cell. My recent interests have focused on HIV-1 vaccine development as part of two EU funded vaccine consortia.
What are you working on right now?
As head of the containment level 3 facility within the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology I have dedicated my time to establishing the Oxford SARS-CoV-2 facility. This facility had previously been restricted to HIV-1 research but has now been converted into a multiuse lab that has become the centre for Oxford based SARS-CoV-2 research.

In this extraordinary time Oxford has proven itself to be at the forefront of cutting edge research in a truly collaborative, multidisciplinary and supportive way. Bringing together experts in virology, structural biology, RNA biology and immunology the new SARS CoV-2 facility has underpinned a multi-departmental drive to combat Covid19.
